Andy emigrated with parents John and Margaret to San Diego, California on the original ‘Queen Elizabeth’ in November of that year. His early schooling was therefore in the USA. In February 1971 the family (now all U.S.Citizens) returned to SE Cornwall to live, initially with Barbara & Arthur LANCASTER, but later found their own place at Maker Farm House, Millbrook. His schooling continued in Torpoint. Following this Andy gained employment in the Meteorological Office, firstly at RAF Mount Batten in Plymouth, and subsequently in many locations (including an overseas posting to Germany). He returned to Newton Abbot in 2001 when the HQ was moved from Bracknell to Exeter. Having progressed to become a senior forecaster, he eventually retired from the Hazards Centre, Operations Centre, Exeter in 2013. At the time of leaving the Hazards Centre had just embarked on Space Weather Forecasting, quite a change from terrestrial weather forecasting! Since retiring Andy has embarked on raising the profile of the sport of bodysurfing within the UK. In order to do this he established two Community Interest Companies (C.I.C.’s) and set about forming an Association of Members and an annual Championships (see much more about this at Bodysurfing)
