NOTES:-

John Bodenham, whilst in the RAF engaged on pilot training, married Margaret in May, then, 2 weeks later went off to train in Canada, at Claresholm, Alberta. At the end of training, John returned to Gloster Aircraft Co, in the design office. In 1956, soon after the birth of Andy, the family emigrated to the USA, to San Diego. John worked for Convair on the 880 airliner. In 1958/9 the family returned to England; John worked for Vickers Armstrongs at Weybridge, commuting to and from Gloucester at weekends. Return to USA was effected in Oct. 1959, and employment was varied. Narmco for 2 years. General Dynamics for 2 years. Convair for a short time, at which point John became a contract engineer (‘job-shopper’) and went alone to Seattle to work for Boeing on the 737. Several jobs ensued, including a 6 month stint in Southall, London, working for Lockheed Georgia on the wing of the C5A. We lived in Bedfont. Return to USA in 1966, to S.D., but soon got a permanent Senior Design position with Boeing in Seattle working on their SST, which was cancelled. We had lived in Federal Way, Washington for 3 years. The family then returned to England to live, travelling on Hazel’s birthday in 1971, with my intention to live as far southwest as possible to enable cultivation of the most types of rhododendrons! John, after a year in Dingles Department Store selling televisions, got a position in Local Government, firstly Plymouth City Council and finally Devon County Council, Area West Offices in Plympton, called ‘Treverbyn’. The final post was in Traffic Section. Margaret was at first in the Gloucestershire Chest Clinics, soon to become the National Health Service, doing clerical work in the X-Ray Office. Whilst in America she did voluntary work for school library. Back in England she rejoined the NHS, this time in Plymouth, working at Freedom Fields Hospital, again in X-Ray, clerical. We both retired in 1994.

As a keeper of the woods for many years John’s ashes are to be scattered in Wembury Woods, nr Plymouth.
