NOTES:-

This sheet deduced from information supplied by Will Rees, plus B,M&D Records, and Census returns.

In the 1881 census (behind this sheet) there are 2 things worthy of mentioning:-

On the original record, the place of birth of James, originally written as ‘Newent, Glos’ has been crossed out and the words substituted are ‘Lambeth’ & ‘Surrey’. I believe the original entry to be correct, and the reason for the change is unknown. There are no other ‘James born 1840’ other than at Newent, anyway.

At James’s residence in Lambeth, is ‘Oliver Bodenham’, shown as a ‘Boarder’(possibly altered from ‘Brother’). I think he must have been related to have the same Bodenham surname. I have guessed Oliver to be James’s younger brother, but the implications are minimal because he must surely be related to this branch of the family somewhere. However, he neatly fits in as the younger brother; several of the children seem not to have been registered with formal birth certificates (ie Jane, Louisa, Albert and Oliver).

*Thomas has 2 possible certificates, 1855(3) at Worcester or 1856(2) at Hereford. They would need to be purchased to discover from parental names any authenticity.
