NOTES
* On the 1871 census this child seems to be an illegitimate child of Alice prior to her marriage to Joseph, and is given her maiden surname, ‘Baldwin’. On the 1881 census a child of the identical family hierarchy is called ‘James Bodenham’. It is possibly the same physical person, but there is no easy way of telling whether this is so.
By 1881, James senior is in a ‘Lunatic Asylum’ prior to his demise in 1886. In 1891, Alice is a widow, and is not shown in 1901.
There may well have been other children not surviving.
No other progeny have been found for the subsequent families of these children, or are anticipated.
